When adulting hits you hard, you are often busy making a life: work, bills, deadlines, food, internet.

It’s an endless cycle of getting through the day, one by one. And it can end up in an unhealthy lifestyle— stress eating, wrong decisions, bad habits, arguments.

Toxicity not only goes through the body but also in the mind. If you find it hard to get through stress and anxieties, it’s time to look after your health and well-being.

Taking Things On a Holistic Approach

More often, the word holistic is mistaken for being or living spiritual alone.  But more than just the religious side, having a holistic view is seeing life in a bigger picture as a whole.

Bit by bit, you look at each aspect and how they affect each other as a whole.

A holistic approach understands and considers how the mind, body, and soul are connected. Moreover, this practice becomes a habit of making choices to become a better person.

A holistic approach will change your lifestyle to achieve happiness, peace, balance, and fulfillment in life.

Understanding the Aspects Of Holistic Health

body mind spirit note

Five aspects influence how you take things as a whole. The secret is looking at each of them to understand how having a holistic view helps you become a better person.

Physical Health

People often mistake healthy for being physically sound and well. It’s just one part of the whole that affects a person’s well-being. When your body is in perfect shape, it leads to many simple accomplishments.

You’d have to agree that feeling ill and resuming work can result in poor performance.

But when you’re taking things in a holistic approach, you won’t only look at the illness or your physical state, but you’ll look into the other aspects that may have contributed to your illness.

Are you having financial difficulties? Have you got into an argument with your family, friends, loved ones?

But to overcome anxieties, you need to be physically healthy. Have you wondered why heartbreaks or failures end up with stress eating?

Stress-eating is consuming food more than what it needs. It can also be a way of consuming unhealthy foods like junk foods, excessive sugar.

Holistically, dealing with things involves considering your diet, exercises, and lifestyle.

Emotional Health

Emotions are one of the aspects that are beyond our control. Feelings are something we cannot expect or appoint to ourselves. It comes, and it flows.

But like physical health, it’s also an important aspect to take care of to become a better person.

Of course, there will be times when one cannot withhold, control, or move on from a surge of emotions. It’s valid, and it’s okay. It’s just… being human.

The best thing to do after is to take it holistically and seek emotional healing. It is the part where most traumas can be left treated or not.

And to take it holistically, you have to recognize how other aspects like physical, social, or spiritual health play an important role during therapy or healing.

A holistic approach doesn’t only focus on caring for mental health or physical health or social health alone. Because each of them affects how we view things as a whole.

Mental Health

Our brain houses and processes a lot of information: from the things we learn to our memories and how we respond to simple things.

Mental health is a state of functionality for making judgments, choices, and responses. Many people are often confused with emotional and mental health.

To show their distinction, mental health deals with a person’s response to certain situations.

While emotional health deals more with mood and emotions. Physical, mental, and emotional health are often the most affected aspects of holistic health.

You cannot say that you only need to be physically healthy or emotionally healthy. The brain also undergoes stress and it can affect physical and emotional health.

It can also affect the way we socialize. And more often, having a lot of things going on during anxiety affects the soul and disrupts inner peace.

Social Health

The most rewarding thing about being holistically healthy is we can share our improvements and achievements with the people we love.

The people we love and communicate with help us deal with simple to critical situations.

More often, having more time to connect with these people gives us a break from thinking things only to ourselves. And to become socially healthy, one should know when is the right time to connect or keep things private.

In this time of the pandemic, it is crucial to select the people to interact with. Our time on the internet also determines who we choose to communicate with.

The internet is a good platform to socialize, not only with your friends or family but with your online circle or community.

The internet is also a source of bad energy and toxicity. It pays to know how to manage online socialization and actual connections.

Spiritual Health

You don’t have to become active at religious activities to become spiritually healthy. Not being active in the religion you belong to doesn’t mean you are not spiritually healthy.

Spiritual health is the state of the soul. It’s more of interacting with yourself by reflection and being one with the soul.

We could say that to achieve spiritual wellness is to achieve inner peace. Inner peace is being free from worries and regret as a person.

Inner peace is also being able to achieve self-love without being self-centered. We can say that spiritual wellness is the state of the soul’s contentment as a human.

How To Think and View Things Holistically?

become the change you want to see note

Practicing a healthy lifestyle involves taking care of each aspect of our holistic health. We do not mean just taking care of only one or two aspects but all of them as a whole.

A holistic approach doesn’t only focus on caring for mental health or physical health or social health alone.

Because each of them affects how we view things as a whole. Each of them is connected. So if we desire to act and function normally, it is time to think about things holistically.

1.  Eat healthy foods and avoid processed foods and chemicals. As much as possible, have a healthy, balanced, and clean diet. Get dehydrated. Release the toxins in your body with green tea.

2. Exercise regularly to release bad energy and increase positive hormones like dopamine and serotonin. It’s a good way to focus on making the right decisions, release the stress build-up, and reduce anxiety.

3. Avoid rushing on to things, take one step at a time, and enjoy the moment. Doing so lets us enjoy the beauty of the things around us. Rushing results in poor performance.

But doing things one step at a time allows concentration and focus. We get to learn and cherish the experience, and best of all, we take pride in what we do.

4. Practice gratitude, accept mistakes and learn to forgive. These ways give a lot of room for maturity. These three things pave the way to self-love: knowing what we deserve, taking the mistakes into account.

Rather than dwelling on regrets or blaming other people, we forgive ourselves, make corrective actions, and compromise.  A sense of maturity and acceptance allows us to forgive people who wronged us.

5. Find a way to relax. A step towards inner peace is a space for ourselves to contemplate. Listen to music. Take a day off. Go to new places. Connect with friends. Or simply, get some rest.

What Are the Benefits Of Practicing a Holistic Approach?

Being Able To Reflect In Different Perspectives

Having a holistic view is helpful for planning, decision-making, and making a judgment. When there are bad days, the holistic approach will help someone to remain calm and composed.

When the mind, body, and soul are healthy, such negativity will not reflect on how we interact with people.

And then you’ll develop the habit of looking into things holistically, not just referencing only to just one point or one side.

You will look at the bigger picture and start weighing things from different perspectives and how they affect each other.

When your body has fewer issues to deal with, it has more time to grow, heal, and recover. Its organs function the way they should: a step away from developing illnesses and diseases.

Having a holistic view lets your body and mind relax from all the pressure build-up. Of course, some uncontrollable things can trigger stress.

The good thing about having a holistic view is that the pressure becomes bearable. And oftentimes, we get to learn how to handle such pressure smoothly.

When the body and mind are in condition, the soul follows. We handle situations without inner chaos. We take one step at a time.

We can take a break and get back to our feet slow and sure. We can make the right decisions, and we don’t have to compromise how we interact with people.

Being worry-free is something to achieve, and you can do that through a holistic approach.
