what are the benefits of rose essential oil

Pure rose essential oil has many uses and benefits. For example, it helps in relieving pain, decreasing stress or anxiety, and stimulating sex drive.

In this article, you will discover all the reasons why you should consider using rose oil.

Rose oil can effectively reduce one’s stress, pain, anxiety and depression. It can also fight bacteria and increase libido. Because of the benefits rose oil offers, some people refer to it as “liquid gold.”

What Are the Benefits of Rose Essential Oil?

May Improve Mood

It has been shown that applying pure rose oil on one’s skin relieves the usual symptoms of stress and anxiety. In a study, researchers put rose oil on the skin of the participants.

The participants reported a considerable decrease in their blood pressure, cortisol levels, breathing rates, and blood oxygen levels.

More importantly, the participants said they felt more relaxed after undergoing a rose oil treatment. So, if you are sad or anxious, add some drops of rose oil in your diffuser to lighten up your mood.

Boosts Self-Esteem and Confidence Level

Essential oils may change your demeanor, and the way you react to the situation you are in. With the proper essential oil, you can boost your confidence and eliminate fear and stress.

That is because essential oils can help you remain calm and focused even in the tensest situations.  Rose oil is one of the best essential oils for this purpose. Inhale rose oil, and be ready to bring out your A-game.

Boosts Mental Strength

Mental strength is important because it affects your work or school performance, your resilience to problems, and your overall outlook on life.

Improving your mental strength also means improving your self-satisfaction.

Studies on biochemistry and behavior show that rose oil greatly boosts a person’s mental strength. This benefit is also related to the previous ones already discussed.

A person who is in a good mood and has a healthy level of self-confidence is likely to have a strong mentality as well.

Helps the Skin

Rose oil is great for all skin types. Those who have sensitive skin use rose oil to keep their skin radiant and beautiful.

Due to its astringent and antiseptic properties, rose oil is an excellent option for treating acne. This oil is also great for skin redness and inflammation because of its anti-inflammatory properties.

People also use rose oil to combat skin aging. Rose oil does this by moisturizing the skin and refining its texture. Lastly, rose oil exfoliates and brightens your skin.

It can help you have a glowing and vibrant skin.

Antibacterial Properties

Rose oil has been the subject of numerous science researches. These studies show that rose oil contains high levels of phenolic, and exhibits great antibacterial activity, even against Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis strains.

This is not surprising because the rose plant has constituents, such as terpenes and flavonoids that can affect the health of humans. Based on these studies, rose oil can be used to combat infections.

Helps In Relaxation

As mentioned earlier, rose oil decreases the breathing rate and blood oxygen saturation of a person. Rose oil is also believed to help in the release of feel-good hormones in the brain.

In fact, rose oil has been used to treat women suffering from postnatal depression. Women who had undergone this treatment reported a notable improvement in their postnatal depression and general anxiety scores.

Thus, a person can make himself calm and relaxed by inhaling rose oil.

For relaxation purposes, it is highly recommended that rose oil be used in aromatherapy. That is because the olfactory system can directly affect the emotion-regulating part of the human brain.

This is the reason why smelling something can trigger feelings and memories.

However, the topical application of rose oil is effective too. But this method of applying rose oil should be exercised with caution because the said oil is concentrated.

It would be best if a small amount of the oil would be applied on one part of the skin first to check if there would be any adverse reaction.

Contains Antioxidants

Antioxidants play an important role in skincare. They remove free radicals that cause skin-aging. They also help achieve a bright and even complexion.

Antioxidants have the additional benefits of keeping the skin fresh-looking and removing fine lines.

Lastly, antioxidants assist in hydrating the skin and in reducing skin inflammation.

With antioxidants, your skin will not just look better; it will also be healthier. Rose oil is naturally rich in antioxidants.

Add rose oil application into your skincare regimen to keep your skin beautiful and healthy.

Enhances Libido

When people ask the question, “what are the benefits of rose essential oil?” they do not expect any benefit involving sex drive. In fact, this is one of the most surprising benefits of using this essential oil.

Rose oil helps people to relax and be confident. Thus, it is an obvious solution to stress- and performance anxiety-related sexual dysfunctions.

The scent of rose oil also helps in balancing sex hormones . One can have improved sex drive just by using rose oil.

Studies suggest that as sexual dysfunctions are alleviated, depression and anxiety symptoms appear to be lessened.

This results in a cycle that improves a person’s sex life and mental health. Rekindling desires is as easy as smelling the scent of rose oil.

Alleviates Pain and Muscle Stress

You can topically apply rose oil on a wound to treat it and prevent infection. This is because rose essential oil has antiseptic properties.

Also, research shows that the scent of rose oil can help reduce pain and physical discomfort. According to scientists, rose oil has an analgesic effect not just when applied topically, but also when inhaled.

The aroma of rose oil decreases stress, anxiety, and depression, which are factors that contribute to how a person perceives pain.

Thus, you can use rose oil as a non-invasive alternative or complementary treatment to body pains. Rose oil has also been used as a treatment for menstrual pain.

Studies suggest that aromatherapy with rose oil can help reduce dysmenorrhea.

Rose Essential Oil Uses

Topical Application (Skincare)

rose essential oil application - massage

Like other essential oils, rose oil is often applied topically. You can apply rose oil to different areas of the skin.

For example, you can apply this oil to your neck, your temple, the crown of your head, and the back of your ears. You may also apply rose oil on the soles of your feet.

If you think the scent is too strong, dilute the rose oil with a carrier oil then add water. Do not directly mix essential oils with water.

Here are the things you should remember when applying rose oil topically:

  • Be careful where you apply it – Avoid applying rose oil onto your eyes, nose, mouth or genitals. These body parts are too sensitive for concentrated substances like essential oils.
  • Stop using in case of adverse skin reactions – Your skin will tell you if rose oil is not for you. If you see boils, rashes, or bumps on your skin after applying rose oil, wash your skin with water and avoid further topical application. You should also stop using rose oil this way if your skin becomes itchy or irritated after application.
  • Be careful with the amount of oil you apply – Avoid overdoing it. Your skin will show bad reactions to rose oil, or any essential oil for that matter, in case of excessive application.

Aromatherapy

There are four ways in which you can inhale rose oil:

  • Through a diffuser – This is the best method if you want the scent of rose oil in your whole room. Here, you will need to put rose oil in a device called “diffuser,” which will make the oil evaporate. Note that you should not directly burn rose oil since incineration changes the chemical structure of the oil, rendering it useless.
  • By spraying – Here, you will place a mixture of rose oil and carrier oil into a sprayer. You will then use the sprayer in the areas where you want to smell the scent of rose oil. Some people love to spray this type of solution to their yoga mats.
  • Through steam – With this method, you will need to add some drops of rose oil into a bowl of hot water. You will then place a towel over your head and have your face directly over the bowl. Note that the scent you will inhale using this method can be overwhelming even if only a few drops are used. This is not recommended for children.
  • Through dry evaporation – This method involves putting some drops of rose oil onto a piece of tissue or a ball of cotton. Just place the tissue or cotton near you to enjoy the scent of rose oil.

Relaxing Bath

relaxing bath in pure rose essential oil

You can add your rose oil solution (3 to 12 drops of rose oil and 15 ml of carrier oil) into your bath water. Circulate the oil by stirring the bath water before you climb in.

Foot Soak

You can mix your rose oil solution with Epsom salt and warm water. Stir the mixture until the salt is dissolved. For 15 to 20 minutes, soak your feet in the mixture.

Natural Perfume

Creating a natural perfume out of rose oil is easy. You just have to combine your preferred amounts of carrier oil and rose oil.

For many people, a solution of 8 parts of carrier oil per part of rose oil is the best. You will then have to put the solution inside a perfume bottle.

Why Is Rose Oil So Expensive?

Rose oil is expensive because of the following factors:

  • The demand for it is high – The demand for a product dictates its price. Many people buy rose oil, both as a finished product and as a raw material. This high demand causes price increases.
  • It requires special shipping and storage – Essential oils are generally difficult to transport and store, mainly because they are highly volatile and are sensitive to the changes in light and/or temperature. These special storage and shipping requirements increase the costs shouldered by manufacturers, which they pass on to consumers.
  • Rose oil content is low – This means many rose flowers are needed to produce rose oil. Rose oil producers use many resources, such as labor, to distill oil from rose petals.

Where To Buy Pure Rose Oil: Best Rose Essential Oil

where to buy pure rose oil

I personally like Young Living brand and I have an account with them so buy directly with them.

YL also has a presence on Amazon but for some reason I couldn’t find their rose essential oil in there.

If you decide to buy rose essential oil with YL, you’ll be able to make a one-off purchase as well but you’ll need to set up an account with them first time and provide Brand Partner Number (you can use mine for that if you like: 24386787).

I know it can be a bit of a hassle for just one-time order hence look around for pure and organic rose essential oil elsewhere as well. Amazon has some well rated rose essential oils on offer but I’ve not used them so cannot comment.

Another option would be to make your own rose oil 🙂 I’ll update this post, if I’ve got something to share with you 🙂

Using rose oil is not limited to sniffing an open bottle or a cotton ball. You can use a diffuser to spread the rose oil scent in your room.

You may even spray a rose oil solution onto a yoga mat to help you focus during your yoga sessions.
