Whole foods cleansing or superfood nutritional cleanse is not exactly a new trend but it becomes more and more popular amongst regular people (not just health buffs) who also want to enjoy better health, vitality and energy in their life.
As previously discussed on pages of this blog, there are many health benefits that come with superfoods cleanse (more on that in: Detox Your Body with Superfoods: 7 Superfoods for Nutritional Cleansing ).
Now, let’s look at 3 simple ways you can cleanse your body with alkaline superfoods for optimum health benefits.
How To Do Superfood Nutritional Cleansing
Here’s how to detox your body with superfoods smoothies and juices.
Option 1: Alkaline Superfoods Smoothie (speedy option when you don’t have much time)
Recipe:
- dark leafy greens (e.g. spinach, kale) – this is the main ingredient so pack as much as you like
- a third of cucumber
- half a banana (optional)
- small handful of berries (e.g. strawberries, blueberries etc)
- water (mineral or filtered is best) – enough to be able to blend all ingredients
Put all ingredients together into your blender (I use nutribullet as it’s quick and convenient but you can use regular blender as well) and blend together.
If I don’t have time to drink it straight away, I replace the top with the screw on top and take it with me to have it later (that’s why I like nutribullet as it provides you with a screw on top for your blending dish).
I don’t provide the ‘exact’ quantities for ingredients in the recipe above as it depends on how much drink you make, how big your blending dish is etc.
I simply take a quick handful of the ingredients, pour enough water to get the consistency I like and blend it away😊.
My rule of thumb though is to always ensure I put in more veggies than fruit (favorite proportion 3:1 veggies to fruit) otherwise it defeats the object of whole foods cleansing and my personal health goals.
I elaborate a bit more on this subject in my article on pros and cons of juicing for beginners.
However, in case you’re new to it and would like to have some more concrete quantities for the ingredients, I suggest you test it first on a day you don’t need to rush and take a note of how much you are putting in to your blending machine.
Option 2: Alkaline Superfoods Smoothie (when you have a few more seconds of time to spare)
Recipe as above + add a spoonful of alkaline supplement (I like spirulina, chlorella, wheatgrass or barely grass or a mix of those).
Tip: always choose organic supplement to ensure the purity of the ingredients. Also, there should be no sugar, sweeteners or other artificial additives etc added to the supplement – just pure organic ingredient!
What I do, I basically follow the recipe as above and once all ingredients are blended I then add my alkaline supplement at the end and give it one more quick spin in my blender.
To be honest, it is enough to just mix the supplement in with a spoon but I like it quick and evenly mixed so just add a spoonful of the supplement and blend again quickly.
Although this option requires additional few seconds of my time to execute, it enables me to make the most of my daily greens and superfoods cleanse.
By adding a spoonful of alkaline supplement I enrich my drink with a lot more beneficial vitamins and minerals without having to make more juice to consume them.

Option 3: Alkaline Superfoods Juice
This is an advanced option (i.e. extra prep and time required) and my personal favorite 😊
Recipe:
- 3-4 celery sticks
- A third of cucumber
- Half a pink grapefruit OR half an apple
Cut veggies and fruit into medium size chunks and juice in a juicer (I use Omega and highly recommend it).
Then add a spoonful of your alkaline supplement and either mix all with a spoon or blend it in a blender (I use my blending dish to collect the juice from the juicer so just adding in my alkaline supplement there and blending it all together-very quick and convenient to do).
I absolutely love my detox drink made this way!
It is highly nutritious because juicing extracts more nutrients from my ingredients and by adding alkaline supplement I boost my drink even further taking my whole foods cleansing to the whole new level! 😊
Not a fan of whole foods cleanse juice? If you are more of a smoothie person but would still like to enjoy the benefits of juicing, I’ve got you covered.
Here’s my BONUS Option 4 for a Super Combo Alkaline Smoothie with All Juicing Benefits.
How to make it? Just use the smoothie recipe from Option 1 and instead of water, add in the juice from Option 3 (including the alkaline supplement) and blend it all together.
That way you will truly have the benefits of both worlds i.e. the nutrients from the juiced ingredients, the fiber from whole veggies and fruit, and the boost of additional vitamins and minerals from the alkaline supplement!
This indeed requires extra time spent on juicing but even if you do it only once or twice a week when you don’t need to rush in the morning, it will pay off beautifully sooner than you think (plus keep checking that complexion of yours) 😊
How Often Should You Do Your Whole Foods Cleansing?
This really comes down to your health goals and current health condition. If you are healthy and already eating clean, you can easily make your detox drink a part of your everyday healthy habit.
However, if you are only looking for a temporary cleanse, you can try it for 2-3 days -either drink just the juices a few times a day (and plenty of water) or combine it with a clean diet (more on that in my post about body cleanse with superfoods).
Whole foods cleansing, although may be beneficial for many, like everything else in life is not for everyone. This is definitely not ‘fit for all’ solution.
So if you are allergic to any ingredients or have any underlying health conditions you should always consult with your health practitioner before attempting to detox.
